How far can you go by just lipsynching? If you're just an ordinary singer, probably not very far. But if you're a true "recording artist", well you could suddenly catapult yourself to youtube stardom.

Moymoypalaboy, is a talented dynamic duo from Pasay, Manila. It's easy to dismiss these two as youtube trash - but for somebody who just joined last February 24, they already have amassed 271,855 channel views. Still modest by youtube standards, I know. But anybody who can remake the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" into something hilariously entertaining as below seriously has my respect. And that's not even considering that the Wannabe video is one of their biggest hits (pun intended) with 1,262,922 views and counting.

Keep synching, brothers!

Since her debut in Sept. 2006 through the sketch "Instant Vlogging", Christine Gambito a.k.a "HappySlip", has shot to superstardom in the world of YouTube. In March 2007, she won 2nd place in the YouTube Video Award for Comedy in 2006 for "Mixed Nuts". Her natural flair for the medium has also entitled her to become one of the first YouTube users to become part of its revenue-sharing program.

Now, HappySlip is set to become the new "ambassador" of Philippine Tourism. While many Filipino YouTube users welcomed this development, a few doubt whether she could make a difference in the real world considering that she is a web celebrity.

But imagine how successful Philippine Tourism would be, if she could achieve the same regular visits to the country as the regular visits to her YouTube site. That would certainly be a marketing feat!

If there are still doubts regarding the viability of YouTube as a mass medium, surely, the latest gamble by the Queen of Talk totally obliterates these uncertainties. In an unprecedented move four days ago, Oprah set up her own channel on the online site featuring clips from her show. This makes Oprah perhaps the first prime-time and mainstream television celebrity to acknowledge and embrace the power of YouTube. Once again, she proves that when it comes to communication, she is always a step ahead.

Yes, it can happen. There is a chance that the content you upload to YouTube can end up in mainstream media. Take the example posted in adgoodness about a commercial made by Nick Haley, an 18 year old English kid who made an iPod Touch ad that was seen and liked by Apple people so much that they ended up buying the rights to it. The original amateur YouTube version of the ad is on top while the Apple-produced commercial is at the bottom.
